Maria Maja enjoys painting
abstract, impressionistic-symbolic art in her studio. A term coined by the artist. Maria is able (with this method) to paint
intuitively.
Starting out as a realist, she found her present way of painting more
fun. In the beginning, she relates, she found it frustrating at times
when she began painting this new way in 1991. Going from designing
realistic paintings for greeting cards, she had to rethink on how to create
art. Frustration at first, turned
to total freedom, as she began to understand the process of letting go of her preconceived
ideas about art. She says she hates to admit it, but at one time she
thought artists who painted abstract art didn’t know how to paint. Maria
learned the opposite was true through the years.
