Lynn Rix #30 on the Covered Bridge Art Studio Tour stop Oct 10-12th

Lynn Rix paints because she loves the challenge of looking at a familiar scene and simplifying it into shapes, colors and her own vision. She primarily paint “en plein air”; however, she also work in the studio from still lifes, and reference photos.

Painting “alla prima” , with quick brush work and a limited palette, forces me to work spontaneously. Lynn strives to give the viewer a quick snapshot of that particular moment in time; an impression of an effect of light she felt to be beautiful. She usually works on smaller canvases in order to be able to complete a painting in 2-4 hours capturing the sun before it moves on. Lynn particularly enjoys painting the Wisconsin rural landscape and small towns in all four of our unique seasons:  Winters when the sun shines brilliantly after a snowfall, the white of the snow and the crystal clear blue of the sky produce a kaleidoscope of vibrant color that begs her to paint;  Spring and Summer when the fields are full of life, the gardens are in full bloom and the warmth of the sun makes her feel alive with the paint brush; Autumn when the hot oranges, reds and golds of the trees and fields vibrate against the cool blue of the sky.

Ilze Heider has chosen leather as her medium for the past 40 years. Finding an ever-expanding source of materials and techniques, she combines color, texture and feel of materials to create a unique and functional piece of wearable art.  A handbag must look as good and fit as well as a fine piece of clothing. Ilze believes her work emits the energy and pleasure she puts into it.

Wendy Anderson's love of nature provides the greatest inspiration for her art. Whatever the medium she chooses to work in, her relationship with nature can be strongly felt. The goal for her in creating is to immerse herself in the process, drawing on a creative spirit that emerges when she visualizes the natural world. It may be the contrast of light, the vibrancy of color, or the intrigue of a pattern that draws me to a subject. Wendy's goal is for the viewer to sense her joy and see the world through her eyes.
  Wendy has been a Watercolor artist for 30 years. Other mediums that she enjoys working in include oil painting, acrylic, fused glass and ceramics. Volunteering at local schools and the West Bend Museum of Art provided me opportunities to teach art to children and adults early in my career. She was a high school art instructor for eight years, and over the last 20 years, she has taught art workshops at Moraine Park Technical College, West Bend Museum of Art and Cedarburg Cultural Center.

Kay Walters work comes out of her love of color, texture and form depending on the medium selected.  It is a spiritual journey that takes contemplation, time and freedom to do.  She uses watercolor, egg tempera, encaustic or fiber art to satisfy the work.

Catherine Holly loves to learn.  Whether developing the skills of an artist or embracing life's lessons, she have found a joy in being able to see things in a new and refreshing way.  The layering developed in her artwork mirrors the layering of growth in her life.  It provides an environment for thoughtful and engaging movement to weave its way through a painting, giving it depth and mystery. When this takes place in an atmosphere that strives for balance, it has the potential to create something beautiful.  This is the hope of her work.

Renee Graef #16 on the Covered Bridge Art Studio Tour stop Oct 10-12th

Renée Graef has illustrated over 70 books for children including the Kirsten series in the American Girl collection and many of the My First Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder for HarperCollins. She served as creative consultant for HarperCollins for five years, art directing many of the books in the Little House program.

She has illustrated classics such as The Nutcracker and My Favorite Things as well as books about American icons, Mount Rushmore and Paul Bunyan.

Renee's sketches and prints of time alphabet book  (done in a "steampunk" style) will be shown. Books will be available for a recently completed book for Mount Rushmore, highlighting the monument as well as other national parks.

This year, two illustrations from the "Cedarburg" book have garnered national recognition with awards from the Society of Illustrator-West show in Los Angeles, winning a Silver Award and an Honorable Mention Award.  Prints will be available.

In the 1980’s she transitioned into the graphic arts industry where she spent 18 years until she started back into her own art. Sandra Pape is a painter and mixed media artist combining paint, collage, and found objects into assemblages and jewelry, she can experiment and challenge herself in many creative ways.   Sandy makes art because it is her heart, her passion and fills her with joy. The paintings Sandy paints focus on women and children, their lives, feelings and stories. They are thought provoking and have an emotional quality. The style she works in, is because she is a self taught artist, is free and expressive and bordering on primitive.

Sandy does her art and then leaves it to the viewer to form their own connection and interpretation.

Jewell Riano #26 on the Covered Bridge Art Studio Tour stop Oct 10-12th

Jewell Riano is a Wisconsin artist who takes a non-traditional approach to subject matter, in both acrylic painting and printmaking. Jewell lives in Mequon, Wisconsin with her husband, James Bradley. She has two daughters and four grandsons.

Art education was the center of her early career, as art teacher and supervisor of art teachers. She has taught art in Kentucky, Indiana, and Wisconsin, as well as in Bogota, Colombia, South America. Her later endeavor was dedicated to leadership and school administration. Since her recent retirement, she has returned to her art and now considers herself a professional artist.

Jewell works mostly from her home studio, and creates  monoprints on large presses at the Ozaukee Art Center in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, where she enjoys a mentorship with Paul Yank - several of her works of art are on display there in the gallery.

Donna Wallner #15 on the Covered Bridge Art Studio Tour stop Oct 10-12th

Donna Wallner is a copper artist.  She has taken metal-smith classes at McCarthy Studios in Grafton for more than seven years.  In that time she has learned many jewelry making techniques.  Her current passion is creating life size copper flowers.  The flowers are drawn out on copper sheet, cut out by hand, edged smoothed, riveted together and then welded to a heavy gauge copper wire. Once it's welded, it is then put into pickle and cleaned with a wire brush and the petals are ready to be formed in to a flower. When that is finished she will either add some heat on it with the torch to put on patina or spray with vinegar and kosher salt and put in a air tight bag for a few days for different result.  They are then sprayed with lacquer if they're to stay indoors.

Erin Lillich - Eden Farm soaps are all natural, hand crafted artisan soaps made from scratch using the cold process method. Erin makes her soap in small batches because this allows her the ability to create many different combinations of lovely oils, botanicals, clays and essentials oil blends that when combined with goat’s milk, provide a wonderful cleansing, nourishing and moisturizing experience. She started making soap, lotion bars and lip balms for family & friends and found she loved the whole creative experience. When she's making soap she imagines how this particular soap will look and feel. All the while she am enveloped by the scent of the essential oil blend. It’s a bit of heaven. It’s also become such a joy for her to share her soap beyond just family and friends. Erin thrives on the interaction with new and returning customers. It’s a wonderful connection.

Clarey says her work is a "Sense of place or the feeling of home has always been an integral part of my life. Being able to interpret a landscape and to evoke its identity and character in a way that can resonate for the viewer is very rewarding." Richard Smith graduated with a B Arch from Miami University in Oxford, OH. After retiring from working in the architectural field for many years, ho took up painting. He has worked in several mediums but is currently concentrating on watercolor. He is a Plein Air painter with landscape, and water scenes with shrimp boats as his subjects. Richard is a member of the Wisconsin Watercolor Society and the Cedarburg Artist Guild.

Leila Smith has exhibited in numerous juried and invitational art fairs and shows since 1957. She has worked in many drawing and painting mediums but is presently concentrating her efforts on watercolor. Subject matter includes landscape, water scenes, flowers, and still life. She is a Plein Air painter. Leila is a member of the Wisconsin Watercolor Society and Cedarburg Artists Guild. Leila graduated from Miami University in Oxford, OH with a BFA.
