Donna
Wallner is a copper artist. She has taken metal-smith classes at
McCarthy Studios in Grafton for more than seven years. In that time she
has learned many jewelry making techniques. Her current passion is
creating life size copper flowers. The flowers are drawn out on copper
sheet, cut out by hand, edged smoothed, riveted together and then welded to a
heavy gauge copper wire. Once it's welded, it is then put into pickle and
cleaned with a wire brush and the petals are ready to be formed in to a flower.
When that is finished she will either add some heat on it with the torch to put
on patina or spray with vinegar and kosher salt and put in a air tight bag for
a few days for different result. They are then sprayed with lacquer if
they're to stay indoors.
